Our trip to Rome

Our trip began in Vienna, the capital of Austria. We explored the Gothic grandeur of St. Stephen’s Cathedral and took some pictures, walked through the courtyards of the Hofburg, and visited the Austrian National Library, where the wooden galleries and frescoed domes made it feel as though we had been transported back almost 700 years! Walking the sprawling gardens of Schönbrunn Palace and admiring the Baroque Belvedere gave us an unforgettable introduction to Central European architecture.

Next, our train took us to Venice, where, as soon as we stepped out of the station, we saw the Grand Canal, which was an absolutely incredible sight, especially as we arrived just as the sun was setting. Thanks to Google Maps, we managed not to get lost in the narrow streets of this beautiful city on our way to our flat. Later that evening, we reached St. Mark’s Square after sunset, and it offered an unforgettable view, beautifully illuminated by the surrounding historic buildings.

A short trip south took us to Florence, a city of museums and magnificent Renaissance architecture. We marvelled at the sheer scale of the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore. We visited the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze and saw the magnificent statue of David. We also visited the interactive Leonardo da Vinci museum, featuring realisations of his drawings – which were several hundred years ahead of their time – and it was an unforgettable experience! We rounded off the day by climbing up to Piazzale Michelangelo to watch the sunset bathe the whole city in a warm, golden light.

At last, we reached our main destination — Rome. Our route perfectly captured the saying ‘All roads lead to Rome’, as this was the grand finale of our adventure. The Eternal City proved to be the true highlight: standing beneath the towering arches of the Colosseum and strolling among the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum was simply incredible. We admired the Trevi Fountain, marvelled at the open oculus inside the Pantheon, and, to top it all off, visited the Vatican – a country within a country! We were fortunate that the queue for St. Peter’s Basilica wasn't very long :)) ; stepping inside, the monumental architecture and frescoes revealed the quiet power of a place so deeply steeped in history and spirituality.

Finally, we would like to express our gratitude for the opportunity to take part in such a fascinating journey, during which we admired the beautiful architecture and culture, sampled the local cuisine, walked tens of thousands of steps in each city, and took over a thousand photos. The memories and emotions we experienced during this trip will stay with us forever!
